PACK HIKES
Pack 150 holds at least one pack-wide hike a year. We feel this is kinda mandatory for any self respecting Cub Scout pack!
Soldier's Delight (November 21, 2021)
The day was overcast but not too cool and perfect for a fall hike. Dan's Webelos den started the hike with a few facts about the Soldier's Delight area, such as chromium mining that used to occur there and invasive Virginia Pines that are sometimes cut down by the state to help control them. Then we launched into the hike and enjoyed the scenery! We had a great turnout with over 50 people total! For additional information on the Soldier's Delight area, see this article from the Baltimore Sun.

Patapsco Valley State Park, McKeldin Area (November 14, 2020)
We could not have asked for a more beautiful day than this sunny November afternoon! We hiked the Switchback Trail, which follows the Patapsco River for a good portion of the hike. The scenery was not disappointing!

There were a few hilly spots requiring some effort but this is good training for the Boy Scout years!
Oregon Ridge (October 20, 2019)
Rain was not able to deter Pack 150 from a fun afternoon! We started in the Oregon Ridge Nature Center, where our Scouts made friends with the many snakes, fish and turtles on display. The rain never completely stopped but everyone came prepared in rain gear and boots so we trekked through the Oregon Ridge woods and discovered some painted trees among the wet leaves and puddles. Everyone had a lot of fun and the Scouts really enjoyed an hour out in the rain!

Liberty Reservoir Dam (April 28, 2019)
We started at the top of the dam and then attacked the bottom from two sides. Some hiked down a trail from the top (requiring a hike back UP at the end!) and some drove around to the bottom and hiked in. The end point was the same - the bottom of Liberty Reservoir Dam and a great view of water coming down the spillway!

Harper's Ferry (November 11, 2018)
Our Harper's Ferry hike was an adventurous one capped by a gorgeous late afternoon view of Harper's Ferry, the Shenandoah River and the Potomac. We tackled the Maryland Heights trail which I don't think was as difficult as we initially feared. It was definitely a hill climb, though! We did not hike the entire trail (which also goes to the remains of a fort at the top) - only to the overlook. Click any pic below to view full size!

Soldier's Delight (May 6, 2017)
Pack 150 went for a hike at Soldier's Delight, near Liberty Reservoir, the morning of May 6. The weather held and the morning was perfect! If anyone is interested in repeating the hike or going on their own, a trail map is found here. One unique fact about the area is that it was mined for chromium for some number of years. Mine shafts and evidence of mining can be found in the area and the nature center periodically hosts group tours and presentations.

Our Cub Scouts hiked for miles!
During a break, Damon pulled out his camp stove and made one of his favorite trail treats. Pine needle tea! Yes, you read that correctly - pine needle tea! It really wasn't bad - several of the boys liked it quite a bit. I doubt Earl Grey will adopt an air freshener flavor but if you wanted to add some taste to a hot cup of water on the trail, you could do far worse.
